When the air-source heat pump is used for heating in the northern region, it is restricted by weather conditions and its own performance, and there are problems of weak heating capacity and high power consumption. While combining the peak and valley electricity price, most scholars do not consider the characteristic differences of peak and valley electricity price between regions. In this paper, an operation strategy combining low electricity cost and high COP is proposed, and a simulation model of an air-source heat pump thermal storage heating system is built by TRNSYS. The economy and energy saving of different strategies in different regions under the same conditions are compared and analysed, and then the appropriate regional operation strategy is recommended based on the analysis results. The results show that in Xi’an, Lhasa, Yinchuan, Urumqi, Jiuquan, and Dulan, the thermal storage strategy of valley power and ambient temperature can reduce the electricity consumption during the heating period by 14.2%, 2.0%, 15.8%, 9.7%, 4.6% and 5.8%, respectively. Compared with the all-day start-stop control thermal storage strategy, the operating electricity costs are reduced by 50.6%, 6.7%, 55.7%, 55.2%, 7.0% and 30.5%, respectively. The air-source heat pump thermal storage heating system combined with the operation strategy of low electricity cost and high COP has shown obvious advantages in most areas.
